What would the Hamilton Marathon be with out our volunteers and sponsors? Truly it would only be a
vision with no legs! However thanks to our many sponsors, and countless volunteers we are able to put
legs on this vision! The Hamilton Marathon has become a venue for countless charities to host a fun and
fabulous week-end of fun runs and extreme challenges. Families come to participate in the 1k, 5k, and
10k, and teens as young as 13 come to run a full marathon, some even take on the challenge of
dribbling a basketball through the full marathon course as 17 year old Colin Hayens did this past
Sunday. Did he do it for his own name sake, no he did it for his sisters and brothers that have been
adopted from Haiti.
So hats off to all the countless number of volunteers that have made this past week-end a
success, for the sponsors who stand behind us each year, for the support of the local community
and the reality of giving this vision legs, legs to run a race for ourselves and for
Citykidz & Joy & Hope of Haiti! Thank-you!
VOLUNTEERS MAKE IT HAPPEN
Road races are dependent on scores of people who tirelessly give of their time and effort to make a
given event a success. The Hamilton Marathon weekend is no different. We need about 300 enthusiastic
volunteers to give us a small amount of their time both on and off the course. If you would like to
become involved with this event, please contact Leanne Gosse at g_leanne@hotmail.com. Many tasks
need staffing including: aid stations, placing signage, clean up, registration, medic aid, bike paramedics,
marshalling and more. All volunteers will receive a T-shirt sponsored by Tim Hortons and a
nightlight touque sponsored by Runners Den.
If you feel you have selected expertise for a particular task, please mention it. We could use all the help
we can get to make this event a success.
